Frequently asked questions

Here you will find answers to some common questions that people often have before starting counselling. If you have a question not covered here, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I am here to support you every step of the way.

What can counselling help with?

Counselling can help with anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, bereavment and loss, life transitions, trauma, and other emotional challenges.

What type of counselling approach do you use?

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw on different counselling approaches to meet your individual needs. These tend to be person- centred, psychodynamic and CBT informed approaches. Rather than using a one size fits all model, I tailor our work together using techniques and theories that best support your goals and circumstances.

Are counselling sessions confidential?

Yes they are, everything discussed in our sessions is confidential to ensure your privacy and to create a safe space for you. This will be discussed further during your first appointment to ensure you are comfortable and fully understand the process.

Are you a member of a professional body?

Yes, I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work in accordance with their ethical framework.

What client ages do you work with?

I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I regularly undertake updated safeguarding training and hold a fully enhanced DBS check, which is renewed and maintained in accordance with current safeguarding legislation and best practice guidelines.

How does counselling generally work?

Counselling provides a safe and supportive environment for you to talk openly about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. We will work together to understand challenges, develop coping strategies, and foster personal growth at your own pace.

Do I have to complete any paperwork?

Yes, before we commence counselling I will send over a counselling contract for you to read and sign, and an emergency contact form for you to complete. This is all stored and protected in accordance with GDPR regulations.

What can I expect from my first counselling session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other to help form the therapeutic relationship. We will discuss confidentiality in counselling. We will also discuss what brings you to counselling, explore your goals, and answer any questions you may have.

How long are counselling sessions?

Counselling sessions typical last for 50 minutes, which is known as a therapeutic hour.

Are you registered with the ICO?

Yes, I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO). Protecting your privacy and confidentiality is extremely important to me, and I handle personal information securely in line with UK data protection regulations (GDPR).
